In June 2015, three friends and Junior League Sustainers – Cathy Brooks, Deanna Slone and Beth Ann Riechman* – began a conversation that bloomed into a sincere interest in forming a garden club. Their shared love of beautiful flowers, service and giving back to the community took root, leading to the establishment of the Marietta Daisies Garden Club. Instrumental in the formation of the club were Pril Buege and Mikel Vann, who remain mentors and constant supporters.

The Marietta Magnolia Garden Club officially sponsored the Marietta Daisies into the Marietta Garden Council, Inc. Our first planning meeting took place around the formal dining room table at the Marietta Educational Garden Center, appropriately our "home." The Daisies were the newest club formed in more than a decade and endorsed by the Jonquil and Flower Garden Clubs - that still encourage our efforts. Members are committed to beautification, education, service and leadership in our community. We thank our "founders" for their unwavering support and guidance, as we continue to grow together.

*Beth Ann moved to St. Louis shortly after the trio founded the club. In her own words, "The friendship I have with Cathy and Deanna are forever changed. I thank them for their fortitude, friendship and diligence to persevere into this endeavor with me. Wherever this road takes the Daisies, we will always have garden club."

CONGRATULATIONS
A word of congratulations to our dear friend, Jim Beardon (of the Friends of Green Meadow Preserve). Jim has been honored as the Georgia Recreation and Parks Volunteer of the Year...a much-deserved honor! Known affectionately as "The Bluebird Guy," Jim has been raising awareness of bluebirds for nearly a decade --- and has logged over 3,000 volunteer hours through the Master Gardener Volunteers of Cobb County system.
WILD BIRDS UNLIMITED
